Tottenham tried to sign player likened to Eden Hazard on deadline day after Kolo Muani
Tottenham could have ended the final day of the transfer window with more than Randal Kolo Muani.
Daniel Levy seems to have outdone himself in the summer window.
Tottenham announced Kolo Muani would be joining the Lilywhites on loan from PSG. While Xavi Simons will replace James Maddison for Tottenham in the midfield.
However, fans would have liked to have seen a couple more signings before the market closed for good. As such, they’ll be gutted to discover that one talented gem escaped from right under their noses.

Tottenham tried to sign Malick Fofana on deadline day
Tottenham were linked to Lyon winger Malick Fofana earlier in the transfer window, but opted to pursue alternative options.
Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche was one option Tottenham studied. However, a move did not materialise in the final hours of the window.
But it seems the reason for that could be that the Lilywhites reignited their interest in Fofana. As reported by GiveMeSport on Tuesday, 2 September, Tottenham made an eleventh-hour enquiry for Fofana.
This comes after Thomas Frank turned his attention to recruiting additional creativity after Kolo Muani’s arrival. However, their advances were quickly turned down by Lyon, who doubted their ability to find a suitable replacement.
It is understood that Spurs will weigh up returning to the negotiating table when the transfer window reopens in 2026. It has not been ruled out that a winter or summer approach will be made, with Frank keeping an eye on his progress.

Would Malick Fofana succeed at Tottenham?
Fofana has long been tipped as one of the ones to watch in the future. According to GOAL on 18 June some have described him as “Eden Hazard-like.”
But the real question on the minds of Spurs supporters is whether he’ll manage to match the pace of the Premier League if signed.
His strengths include:
- Pace/acceleration: Fofana uses his pace to glide past defenders and cut inside the box
- Vision and creativity: The Lyon winger is a capable chance creator and is often selfless when setting up his teammates
- Dribbling and technical skill: Fofana uses his close-control to beat defenders and create scoring opportunities.
His weaknesses include:
- Physicality: Fofana is still young and his physical build sometimes hampers him from beating his man
- Composure: His movements can be erratic at times when in and around the final third
When it comes to Fofana, there is no doubt that the positives outweigh the negatives by a country mile. As such, Tottenham should already be thinking about the amount they wish to pay for him next year.
